Balboa Park December Nights

For the 40th consecutive year, Balboa Park December Nights will be hanging Christmas lights in San Diego for everyone to enjoy. Plenty of seasonal entertainment, along with incredible Christmas lights and displays will be a part of this wonderful holiday event.

Hanging Christmas Lights In San Diego Started It All

Balboa Park December Nights started hanging Christmas lights in San Diego back in 1978. The event started out small with about a dozen or so institutions joining together to celebrate the holidays at Balboa Park. Christmas light hanging was a part of the event even from the beginning, along with stores near by extending their hours for Christmas shoppers. As the event grew, it became a city-sponsored festival with everything from business sponsorship, to dozen of food and retail vendors attending the event every year. Attendance has grown over the years with about 300,000 people attending in 2014 and over 350,000 every year after. In fact, USA Today even listed December Nights as the fifth Best Holiday Festival in the United States in 2015.
